Make Tie-back cap on regular sewing machine

I am adding these instructions for all the wonderful folk out there who want to make these on a regular sewing machine. Please go to my previous post for downloadable PDF pattern. Note: I have stitched this with black thread to make it easier for you to see what I have done normally I would have matched the thread colour.

1. Hem straight edge of crown. 2. Match centre front marks and pin around to edge of crown. Stitch using a 1cm seam.

5. Press fabric over 5 mm then another 5 mm along all the remaining edges in preparation for sewing a narrow hem. If you make the tie ends square it will be easier than this shape. Don’t sew them yet.

7. Zig-zag the raw edges together to prevent them fraying. Note that I have made a clip about 1 cm from the bottom edge to allow me to keep the narrow hem out of the zig-zag stitching.
